Snake stops crowds in Melbourne CBD

A veteran snake catcher is seeking to reunite a pet python with its owner after it was discovered slithering across a moving car in Melbourne's CBD.

Snake catcher of 40 years, Barry Goldsmith said it was one of the first snakes he'd retrieved from Melbourne's city centre, and that crowds gathered to view the rare sight.

The motorist was "shook up" when the Stimson's python appeared from under her window wipers as she drove along Market Street on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Goldsmith suggested the snake is likely an escaped pet from the Albert Park, Toorak or Flinders Lane area.
