Small Vic plane in beach landing

A light plane will have to be retrieved after becoming stuck in soft sand during an unplanned beach landing on Victoria's French Island.

Police were called to reports of an apparent emergency landing near the tip of the Western Port island, southeast of Melbourne, about 12.40pm on Saturday.

However, the owner of the plane later told AAP the pilot had simply opted to land on the beach but misjudged how soft the sand was and become stuck.

Emergency services attended the scene. However no one was injured during the landing.
