Siege unfolding after shots fired in rural Victoria

Police are negotiating with a man at a rural Victorian property after shots were fired.

Officers were called to a Wedderburn address just before 8.30pm (AEDT) on Wednesday and it was believed shots had been fired, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

It is too early to confirm whether there are any fatalities.

"Police are currently negotiating with a man at a nearby residence," the spokeswoman told AAP about 10.30pm.

"It's unknown if anyone else is in the house."

A small rural town, Wedderburn is located about 215km north of Melbourne.
