Second man in court over Vic mum's killing

A week after the ex-husband of Melbourne mum Cindy Crossthwaite was charged with her murder a second man has faced court over the killing.

Brian O'Shea faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with murdering the mum-of-three at Melton South on June 20, 2007.

While no DNA evidence was available, CCTV footage dating back to the day of the murder would form part of the evidence in the case, the court was told.

The 50-year-old man faced court with a heavily bandaged left hand.

Ms Crossthwaite was 41 when she was found dead at home by her father Philip. He had gone to check on his daughter after she failed to pick up two of her children from school.

O'Shea, from Taylors Lakes, has never been in custody, his lawyer told the court.

He did not apply for bail and was remanded for a committal mention in October when he will appear via video link.

The charges against O'Shea come after Emil Petrov, Ms Crossthewaite's ex-husband, was charged on July 17 with her murder.

Daughter Jesmine Crossthwaite-Petrov, aged in her 20s, told reporters outside court last week it "wasn't easy" to see her father behind bars.

"I'm just so thankful that this day has finally come. It's been a long 12 years and finally maybe some justice will be served for my mum," she said.
