Saving Vic's critically endangered possum

Forest surveyors in Victoria have found more than 100 new colonies of the critically endangered leadbeater's possum.

There have been 71 possum colonies identified in state forest, where they are subject to special buffer zones and other controls on logging, plus 45 in National Parks since February.

In April the Victorian government said it would fast-track plans to rescue the possum - which is Victoria's faunal emblem - by finding 200 more colonies for ongoing monitoring and support.
