Rock climber critical after fall in Vic

A 73-year-old rock climber is fighting for life after falling from a cliff in western Victoria.

The Adelaide man was part of group doing a climb at Mount Arapiles when he fell three metres from a clifftop and landed on a ledge 30-metres above the ground about 1pm, Ambulance Victoria said.

The unconscious man was lowered to safety using a high-angle rescue as the ledge was too close to the rock face for helicopter access.

His injuries were unknown and he was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.
