Roberta Williams' bail conditions eased

Gangland widow Roberta Williams has had bail conditions eased over coronavirus fears as other accused offenders no longer have to report in-person at Victorian police stations.

Williams, 51, is accused of threatening to kill reality TV producer Ryan Naumenko at Collingwood in July last year.

She is on bail over the offences and applied to have the condition she regularly report to a police station removed.

Removal was not opposed by prosecutors and was granted at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.

Williams faces allegations including making threats to kill, deprivation of liberty and false imprisonment.

It comes after Victoria Police issued a directive suspending people on bail from reporting at police stations from Friday.

The decision will affect about 3000 currently people on bail, who typically make an average of 40,000 bail report visits to stations each week.

"By temporarily suspending this reporting during these unprecedented times, we are removing 40,000 non-essential trips each month," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

"This assists us in reducing the risks to staff and the community."

Alleged offenders must adhere to all other bail conditions.

Police will conduct individual risk assessments on bailees and, if required, will develop an "offender management plan" that will involve them monitoring them more, including through residential compliance checks.
