Ristevski speculation "unhelpful": police

The police investigating the death of Karen Ristevski whose remains were found in Victorian bushland say media speculation is unhelpful.

The Melbourne mother's remains were found in a reserve near Mount Macedon on Monday, almost eight months after she went missing from her Avondale Heights home.

Media have been stationed outside the Ristevski family home since Monday, and were there on Tuesday when her family was told forensic tests had confirmed the identify of the remains.

In a statement on Friday, police said the progress of the investigation has been impacted by reports in recent weeks and further speculation would be unhelpful.
