Rider dies in Melbourne road crash

A motorcycle rider has died after colliding with the back of a four-wheel drive in Melbourne's north.

The female driver of the 4WD wasn't hurt in the crash in Campbellfield shortly after 3pm on Thursday and is assisting police.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said they are looking for a second motorcyclist who stopped at the scene but rode away.

Victoria's road toll has risen to 19, eight fewer than at the same time last year.
