Lucrative reward for unsolved Victorian hotel robbery

A couple who were attacked by robbers as they locked up their hotel in Victoria's Mount Dandenong Ranges hope a $350,000 reward will help identify the men who assaulted them.

The couple, identified only as Mark and Jenny, were left with a fractured skull and a fractured eye socket when two men wearing balaclavas and gloves pushed their way through the rear door as the pair were locking up their Mount Dandenong hotel two years ago.

Police on Friday announced a $350,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible in the hope it will convince anyone connected to the crime to come forward.

"This was a particularly violent and brutal crime," Detective Inspector Steve Clark, from the armed crime squad, told reporters.

"We're only one phone call away from solving this ... there's somebody out there who knows something about this."

Det Insp Clark says the robbery was "unnecessarily violent".

The two men did not speak and made no demands to Mark and Jenny during the attack.

Mark and Jenny feel they're lucky to be alive after being left with serious head injuries.

"We could have easily been killed," Mark told reporters.

Mark says he and his partner of 20 years were easily overpowered by the two men who pushed their way into the hotel.

The couple do not know if their hotel was targeted, or if it was an opportunistic crime.

The pair say it has been difficult to go back to work knowing the people who attacked them are still at large.

"If we put this to bed it will make everyone feel a lot more secure," Mark said.
