Report into Vic bail laws after Bourke St

The Victorian government has received a review into the state's bail system, which was prompted by the Bourke Street rampage.

After two months, the state's attorney-general has received the recommendations from Paul Coghlan QC, which will now be "carefully" considered.

The government promised to change bail laws after six people died when 27-year-old Dimitrious Gargasoulas allegedly deliberately drove into pedestrians on January 20.

He had been granted bail by a volunteer bail justice, leading to immediate changes on that front.

Attorney-General Martin Pakula on Monday night said the government intended to release the review, along with a response, as soon as possible.

Premier Daniel Andrews said last month the government will come forward "almost certainly with legislative amendments following Coghlan's work".

Since last month's tragedy, serious matters are no longer heard in front of bail justices and a new night court with on-call magistrates has begun sitting on Saturday nights.
