Fatal Ratten crash driver drunk: court

A teenager charged over the crash that killed Cooper Ratten, son of AFL assistant coach Brett Ratten, was drunk, on drugs and speeding in a stolen car, court documents allege.

The 17-year-old, who can't be named, appeared in a children's court on Monday to face 10 charges in relation to the smash, including culpable driving causing death.

He is also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, drink driving, driving on drugs and driving without an experienced driver while on a learner's permit.

Court documents allege the vehicle reached speeds up to 165km/h before the fatal smash in Yarra Glen on August 16 this year, and that the driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.107 and ecstasy in his system.

Mr Ratten, 16, was a back seat passenger when it rolled.

He died on the way to hospital.

Brett Ratten is the assistant coach at Hawthorn.

The 17-year-old will return to court on January 7.
