Queues, but no flight delays in Melbourne

A 24-hour strike by Border Force has not grounded planes in Victoria.

There have been no flight delays at Melbourne Airport as a result of Monday's industrial action, though there were long queues in customs during the morning peak.

Long lines are expected again during the 7pm to 9pm spike in international passengers.

Departing passengers are being told to allow extra time to move through customs, but have been warned not to arrive at the airport too early.

"Some are arriving four or five hours early and they have to wait around in the airport because they can't be checked in (at that time)," Melbourne Airport spokeswoman Anna Gillett told AAP.

"We are recommending all passengers arrive three hours ahead of their flight time."

Border Force staff walked off the job for 24-hours over a deal they say would cut their pay and conditions.
