Man in a critical condition after falling seven storeys from a Melbourne CBD building after running from police

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after falling several storeys from a building after running from police in Southbank in inner Melbourne this morning.

Police were called to a multi-level car park in Power Street at about 3am after security guards noticed a man acting suspiciously.

The man ran off when he saw police but was later seen hanging by a railing on the outside of the building about seven storeys up.

Police say officers attempted to reach the man but he fell before they could get to him.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The Victoria Police Professional Standards Command has been notified to investigate police actions in the incident.
