No parole for Russell St bomber

Russell Street bomber Craig Minogue is yet to apply for early release from prison.

There is speculation he could be freed after serving 29 years for bombing Melbourne's police headquarters and killing a young constable, with The Herald Sun reporting he was recently transferred to a medium security prison that prepares prisoners for parole.

The Adult Parole Board says he has not applied for early prison release.

"The Adult Parole Board is not currently actively considering the release of Craig Minogue on parole," a spokesperson said on Monday.

Minogue was sentenced in 1988 to life in jail with a minimum of 28 years for the 1986 bombing.

Since March this year, prisoners have been able to apply for parole up to 12 months before they reach the end of their non-parole period.
