Stolen car may be key to Vic disappearance

A stolen vehicle may be the key to solving the disappearance of a Melbourne delivery driver.

Shiva Chauhan was last seen leaving a bakery in Dandenong South at 12.30am on May 2 last year.

His van was found in Keysborough about 3pm that day, but there has been no trace of Mr Chauhan.

Concerns were raised after he failed to make his bread deliveries and missed an arranged meeting.

Police say a stolen 2006 maroon Toyota Camry sedan might have been involved in his disappearance.

Missing Person Squad Detective Inspector Jill Dyson said the car was reported missing the same month Mr Chauhan disappeared.

"This vehicle gives us the best lead we've had so far in this investigation," she told reporters on Friday.

The vehicle - registration ULO972 - has not been recovered.

Police are treating Mr Chauhan's disappearance as suspicious.

"Shiva has had no prior dealings with police, he's a very likeable person and he's in constant contact with his family," Det Insp Dyson said.

Mr Chauhan is described as Indian, about 177cm tall, with a slim build and straight, dark hair.

Police have released a photo of Mr Chauhan and a photo of a similar vehicle believed to be linked to his disappearance.
