Police hunt man who broke into Melbourne home, injured owner and fled with laptop

A major manhunt is underway in Melbourne this morning after a violent home invasion in the city’s north.

Police understand the man, believed to be aged between 18 and 20, forced his way into the Jacana residence on Lorraine Crescent around 5.30am.

The male home owner in his 50s confronted the man, but was injured during a struggle with the offender and suffered a wound to the chest.

There are reports that a weapon may be involved but police are yet to confirm this.

The alleged thief fled on foot from the property with a laptop.

Police helicopter and dog squads are currently searching the Jacana area for the offender described as being Caucasian with a slim build.
