Police probe euthanasia advocate's death

Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman who was a member of a pro-euthanasia group.

Dorothy Hookey, 86, from Spring Gully in Victoria, used the drug Nembutal to take her own life in November last year.

Exit International director Philip Nitschke said police had recently confiscated the family's computer and iPad.

Mrs Hookey had left a note explaining it was her choice and no one had assisted her death, he said.

"Suicide is not a crime, and people like Dorothy need no assistance to take this lawful step," Dr Nitschke said in a statement on Tuesday.

"She had informed Exit of her plan to possibly end her life years ago, and had prepared herself for this possibility by acquiring the appropriate euthanasia drug."

Victoria Police said a search warrant was executed on a Spring Gully home on March 12.
