A man who dropped his critically injured partner off at a Victorian hospital posted online tributes before he was arrested over her death.

Preston man Steve Samaras, 47, was arrested in Melbourne on Tuesday after a member of the public recognised the car he was driving.

Police had earlier released images of a 4WD with a trailer attached in a bid to locate Mr Samaras, who is also known as Steven Kallouf.

The injured woman, 49, was dropped off at Mildura Base Hospital about 7am on Monday and later died.

Mr Samaras took to social media to mourn the death of Tamara Turner, who he says died in his arms.

"Why God didn't you look after my Tamara, she was a one in a million, need more people like her, why take her away from me and leave me in sadness," he posted.

"I can't stop crying baby girl, I miss you so much."

His Facebook page features many photos of Ms Turner, loved-up photos of the pair, and a video posted in October professing his love for her.

The social media posts suggest Ms Turner had moved to Australia from the US to be with Mr Samaras and they married in February.

Homicide detectives remain in Mildura investigating Ms Turner's death.

Police have not confirmed the name of the woman.
