Police investigate suspicious Vic fires

A series of house and scrub fires in a Victorian seaside town are being investigated by police.

Police are asking for public help about 16 fires, dating back to January 2, which were lit in and around Wonthaggi in the state's southeast.

Victoria police sergeant Adrian Condron said police are still investigating which fires are linked and asked for anyone with information to come forward.

"If you see something, say something no matter how insignificant it might seem. It might just be the piece of information investigators need," he said in a statement on Monday.

"Unfortunately people often may hold on to information or not report an incident for several days."

No one has been hurt in the fires.
