An 18-year-old visitor to Australia who assaulted a flight attendant on an international flight to Melbourne will be taken to an immigration detention centre as he awaits sentencing.
Saudi Arabia man Khalid Alanazi, 18, has pleaded guilty to assaulting the flight attendant and another passenger during a flight between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne on June 17.
He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court for sentencing on Thursday but delays in the proceedings prevented Magistrate Peter Reardon from determining Alanazi's punishment, which means he will be taken into custody by immigration authorities until his next court appearance.
