Fumes from a leaking tanker have affected almost 30 people at a petrol station on the Melbourne-Geelong freeway.

The hazardous liquid leak at the BP service station at Little River on the Princes Freeway began about 12.50pm and isn't yet under control, CFA says.

Three of the 27 people assessed at the scene for fume inhalation have been sent to Geelong hospital for further observation, Ambulance Victoria says.
