Paint the park pink for Masa

A march through the streets of Melbourne in the name of slain teenager Masa Vukotic will now take the form of a rally in the park amid safety concerns.

Thousands of people were expected to take part in the march from Doncaster to the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on June 15, the day her accused killer returns to court.

Masa died after being stabbed while walking in the park in Doncaster in March.

Organiser Clem Ryan says the new event, called the "Paint the Park Pink - Masa Vukotic Sunrise" will send the same message on the same day in a "more beautiful and accessible location" at Flagstaff Gardens.

In a post on the event's facebook page, Mr Ryan said it had been difficult working with multiple parties including Melbourne City Planning and Victoria Police to work out the best way to honour Masa while staying safe and not affecting legal proceedings.

"I have cried every five minutes this week at the bravery and stories of so many people attending to honour their loved ones from 18 years ago to 2015," he posted.

"We might be one of the most liveable cities but we are far from the safest - this event is the start.

"We hope that all of you that have showed so much love will be there to talk, walk, cry and be there for another and change."

Earlier this week Masa's mother Natasa Celebic confirmed she would attend the march.

"I hope that something will change with this as no one has the right to end any girl's life, dreams and plans, just like my Masa had," Ms Celebic wrote on the event's Facebook page.

Sean Christian Price, 31, from Albion, has been charged over her death.
