NSW man to face court for Vic border death

A NSW man who allegedly killed his elderly mother in the Victorian border town of Red Cliffs is due to face court next year.

Paul Cohrs was charged with murder on Friday and his matter was mentioned in Melbourne Magistrates Court, where it was adjourned to March 19, 2019.

The 58-year-old did not face court and he remains in hospital under police guard, suffering allegedly self-inflicted gunshot injuries.

Cohrs is accused of killing Bette Cohrs Schultz, 81, on October 30 near Mildura.

Her body was discovered in a house along with an uninjured four-year-old boy, police have said previously.

Cohrs' brother, 63-year-old Ray Cohrs, was found dead in the small NSW community of Rufus River about an hour later.

NSW police are yet to lay charges over his death.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at Mildura for Ms Cohrs Schultz.

Ray Cohrs, who has been described as a devoted father, husband and loving brother, will be farewelled at a service on Tuesday.
