Melbourne arson accused to stay in custody

A man accused of lighting seven fires in four months on the same Melbourne street has not applied for bail from a Melbourne court.

Michael Himmelmann, 42, was represented by his lawyer and did not appear in person in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Sunday to face the eight counts of arson, which included one other fire on a separate street.

He's accused of lighting the fires on Beddoe Avenue in Clayton between July 15 and October 28 this year.

Court documents show Himmelmann is charged with setting fire to houses on July 15, August 26 and 27, September 1, and October 21 and 28.

He is also accused of lighting up a car and house in Mulgrave on October 28.

Himmelmann was arrested on Saturday night.

He did not apply for bail on Sunday and was remanded in custody to reappear in a Moorabbin court on November 23.

It was Himmelmann's first time in custody, his legal counsel said.
