New footage linked to Vic attack released

New footage of a vehicle linked to a hammer wielding man on a Melbourne street has been released by police.

A woman was attacked by the balaclava clad assailant outside shops in Ringwood East on June 7.

She grabbed the hammer and wrestled with the man but he put her in a headlock and pulled her onto the road, police say.

Two men from a nearby shop chased him away after hearing the woman scream.

Police believe he may have gotten into a dark-coloured twin-cab ute and driven from the area without switching the headlights on.

CCTV and computer generated images of the man were released at the time but further investigations have revealed the car in the area before the attack.

Police released the new footage on Friday.
