Mystery surrounds Vic workplace stabbings

The family of a country Victoria financial planner who ferociously stabbed two managers before killing himself have no idea why he carried out the attack.

Mystery surrounds why Carl Richardson, 48, stabbed RGM Financial Group directors Pearse Morgan and Joe Auciello at their Moe office on Monday before taking his own life.

Mr Auciello is in a critical but stable condition at The Alfred Hospital.

Mr Morgan, who was reportedly stabbed in the eye, chest and arm, is in a stable condition at Latrobe Regional Hospital.

Mr Richardson, a father and financial planner, was found dead from self-inflicted injuries on a bush walking track in Newborough soon after he stabbed his colleagues.

Police say he had no criminal past.

In a prepared statement, Richardson family friend Tony Flynn told reporters on Tuesday it was a "tragedy".

"This is a tragedy for all families involved. There is too much to process," he said.

"We are all in shock and never saw this coming."

Mr Richardson had gone to work as normal before turning on his colleagues with a knife.

Detectives questioned traumatised witnesses and family members of both victims and Mr Richardson on Monday in a bid to find out what led to the unprovoked attack.

Investigations into the incident are continuing, a Victoria Police spokesman said on Tuesday.
