Mum and child escape burning home

A mother and her child have had a lucky escape from their burning Melbourne home.

Fire crews were called to the house in Deer Park early on Thursday, and found one room and part of the roof space fully alight.

Firefighters say the pair were lucky to escape the blaze - thought to have been caused by an electrical fault - after it was discovered there were no working smoke alarms in the home.
