Motorcyclist dies in central Victoria

A motorcyclist has died in hospital after a crash in central Victoria.

The 35-year-old man fell from his motorbike in Kyabram on Thursday.

He was riding on Andrews Road shortly after midnight, when it's believed another motorcycle approached from the opposite direction and both riders fell as they tried to avoid each other.

The Kyabram man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he died on Friday afternoon.

The second rider, also a 35-year-old from Kyabram, was taken to Goulburn Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

As of Friday evening, 26 people have died on Australian roads over the national road toll period.

Seven people have died on SA's roads, six people have died in NSW, four in Victoria, four in Queensland, three in WA, and two in Tasmania.

Both the Northern Territory and the ACT remain fatality free.
