Motorbike rider crashes on Vic pier

A motorbike rider has come to grief after speeding along a Melbourne pier and crashing into a concrete railing.

Police say the Triumph was doing around 70km/h along Brighton Pier in the early hours of Thursday when its rider lost control and crashed into the railing.

A witness took the injured 39-year-old to a nearby boat and gave him first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital.

Police will interview him about traffic offences.
