More than 15 houses evacuated after gas leak in Reservoir

More than 15 houses have been evacuated after workmen damaged a gas pipe in Reservoir, north of Melbourne’s CBD.

Emergency services are at the scene of a leaking gas pipe at the intersection of Broadway and Lindsay Streets, Reservoir.

It is believed the pipe was damaged by workmen using earth moving equipment earlier today.

Between 15 and 20 houses have been evacuated and a 100m exclusion zone has been established around the scene.

A community warning has been issued, and the general public are advised to avoid the area, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) said.

Police, ambulance and the MFB are awaiting the arrival of gas maintenance crews to repair the leak.

MFB are expected to be on the scene until later this afternoon.
