More funding needed to stop Vic violence

Men's behaviour programs are being inundated with new members as police and other services step up their fight against family violence.

During public hearings of the Royal Commission into Family Violence, held in Melbourne this week, it became apparent that current services could not cope with the growing number of referrals.

No To Violence manager Rodney Vlais told the commission programs took in more men than they were funded for, but still had more than 1000 on a waiting list.

He said Victoria had up to 30,000 men prone to violence, who could benefit from such programs.

"We're looking for a significant step up in investment," Mr Vlais said.
