More charges for ex-Vic Christian Brother

A former Christian Brother charged with child sex offences faces eight extra charges, a Victorian court has heard.

The fresh charges were issued after four more people came forward to make complaints against 64-year-old Ted Bales.

He now faces 51 charges of indecent assault and gross indecency.

Bales was initially charged with offences against 14 boys in the 1970s and 1980s.

"Four new complainants have come forward, resulting in eight new charges," prosecutor Luisa Dipietrantonio told the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Bales, of Thomastown, was stationed with the Christian Brothers at Ballarat and Warrnambool, a previous court hearing was told.

The case was adjourned until October 9.
