Mokbel stabbing accused get venue change

The pair accused of attempting to kill drug kingpin Tony Mokbel in a Victorian prison will have their court cased moved over security concerns.

Teira Bennett and Eldea Teuira, both 21, are charged with attempted murder after Mokbel was stabbed in Barwon Prison on February 11.

"Geelong court contacted me and asked that the venue be changed for security matters," Melbourne magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg said on Wednesday.

Three "shivs" or homemade weapons would also undergo forensic testing for DNA, the court was told.

Mokbel was left fighting for life after the alleged attack but was discharged from the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition a week ago as he continues his recovery.

The accused are also charged with intentionally causing serious injury to Mokbel in circumstances of gross violence.

The duo will next face court for a committal mention on May 13.
