Melbourne to welcome 2017 with a bang

Melbourne is set to explode into the new year with the city's biggest ever fireworks show.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has announced details of the glittering $3 million fireworks display that will be visible from anywhere with a view of the city skyline.

"The city will sparkle as 13.5 tonnes of fireworks, a third more than last year, are fired from 22 rooftops across the city, making it the biggest fireworks show that Melbourne has ever seen," Mr Doyle said in a statement on Friday.
