Melbourne teacher charged over child porn

A teacher at a Melbourne private school has been accused of making child pornography after an investigation into alleged upskirting incidents.

The 52-year-old Noble Park man was arrested on Thursday and charged with making and possessing child pornography.

It has been reported he is a teacher at eastern suburbs Jewish school Mount Scopus Memorial College and has been suspended.

The alleged incidents took place between 2014 and 2017.

"Detectives have charged a man following an investigation into child pornography and upskirting incidents at an Eastern suburbs school," police said in a statement.

The teacher reportedly used to work for Bialik College in Hawthorn East and their IT department found the material on a hard drive that had been in storage.

Bialik's principal Jeremy Stowe-Linder wrote to parents to say the school had notified police and the Victorian Institute of Teaching after finding the material, the Australian Jewish News reports.

"The students taught by the teacher were in middle and senior schools," the letter reportedly said.

The man was bailed to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on August 10.
