Melbourne siege coronial inquest delayed

Legal arguments have further delayed a coronial inquest into the death of a man in a police siege two years ago.

Antonio Loguancio's body was found in a burnt-out bungalow after a two-day siege in Glenroy that began on March 1, 2013.

Mr Loguancio, 40, who was in breach of a supervision order at the time, had been described as a significant risk to the public.

He had been released on the order after being sentenced to 12 years' jail on multiple counts of rape, assault and other offences.

Mr Loguancio's family are troubled by the delay, having seen the Lindt Cafe siege inquest get underway after just a few months, their legal counsel Erin Gardner told the Coroner's Court on Friday.

"They're anxious to get answers," she said.

Lawyers representing Victoria Police are seeking to withhold information to protect the identities of officers involved.

Coroner Audrey Jamieson was hesitant to further delay proceedings, but adjourned for a further directions hearing next month.
