Melbourne park murder sparks safety audit

Safety in inner-Melbourne will be reviewed after the shock murder of 22-year-old Eurydice Dixon in a park less than a kilometre from her home.

The City of Melbourne, state government and police will meet on Monday to examine measures such as lighting, CCTV and the positioning of protective services officers, according to the Herald Sun.

An aspiring comedian, Ms Dixon was walking home after performing at the Highlander Bar in the CBD when she was raped and murdered at North Carlton's Princes Park sports field.

Her body was discovered about 3am on Wednesday and Broadmeadows 19-year-old Jaymes Todd has been charged over the attack.

A vigil will also be held at the park on Monday evening.

Police and charity counsellors were at the park on Sunday to talk to the public about the tragedy, while rival football teams who played nearby held a moment's silence around flowers and tributes that have built up at the site where Ms Dixon was found.
