Friends and family rally for Masa

Family and friends of schoolgirl Masa Vukotic have gathered in Melbourne.

Wearing her favourite colour, pink, and headphones, they remembered the "lovely teen" at the Flagstaff Gardens.

The 17-year-old was wearing headphones when she was stabbed to death in a Doncaster park in March.

As promised, Masa's mother Natasa Celebic and Masa's siblings joined the rally.

Close friend Selene Wallis, 18, said she attended the rally to not only honour Masa's memory, but to stand up against inadequate sentencing.

"She was royalty," Ms Wallis said.

"She was an absolute joy to be around."

Lewis Auer said she was wearing headphones because they had become symbolic of her friend's death.

"When she was killed, she was wearing headphones," she said.

"People should have the right to walk through a park without getting attacked, especially when wearing headphones."

While the family chose not to speak to the media at the rally, Masa's mother has previously said she hoped it would be a catalyst for change.

"I hope that something will change with this as no one has the right to end any girl's life, dreams and plans, just like my Masa had," Ms Celebic wrote on the event's Facebook page.

Students from Canterbury Girls' College, the school Masa attended, also briefly attended the rally before school.

A 31-year-old man has been charged over her death.
