Melbourne man guilty of tourist rape

A man repeatedly raped a tourist during a six-week ordeal in a Melbourne hotel room.

Alfio Anthony Granata, 48, pleaded guilty to raping, assaulting and threatening the woman on multiple occasions.

The abuse took place in the hotel room over a six-week period in November and December of 2012.

Granata was due to stand trial at the Victorian County Court on Monday when he pleaded guilty to the nine charges of rape.

He has also confessed to making threats to kill, intentionally causing serious injury, theft and possessing drugs.

He was held in custody to face a plea hearing at a later date.
