Melbourne father charged with murder

A father of two is accused of killing a 47-year-old man in Melbourne's north last month.

Jim Leigh, 53, was charged on Wednesday with the murder of Brian Recourt in the suburb of Montmorency on June 27.

The Melbourne Magistrates' Court heard Leigh had two young children and no prior criminal history.

Victoria Police says detectives discovered Mr Recourt's body on June 29 - two days after the alleged murder took place.

Leigh's hearing before Magistrate John Doherty was brief and was adjourned to Thursday.
