Melbourne man admits gas stove plot

A man has admitted turning on a gas stove and leaving it running in a bid to hurt a woman at a suburban Melbourne home.

Christopher Hodge, 33, pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday to reckless conduct endangering life, intentionally causing injury and aggravated burglary at the St Albans property in September last year.

Other charges including attempted murder and threatening to kill were withdrawn.

Hodge recklessly endangered his victim's life by "turning on and leaving on the kitchen stove gas" at the property on September 8, court documents outlined.

He also went into a bedroom armed with a knife, intending to carry out an assault.

Hodge remains in custody and is expected to appear in the County Court for a plea hearing on October 4.
