Melbourne homes flooded after hydrant bursts

Several home were flooded in Melbourne’s east this morning after a hydrant on the street burst sending water rushing through the streets and into homes.

At least four homes reported extensive damage.

A home closest to a drive way was the most affected when water up to a metre deep rushed through the house at about 2am.

The residents said furniture was moved by the water and firefighters were concerned that the garage door would give way.

Camberwell resident Polly Harkness told 9NEWS that the water flooding her home was close to a metre high.

“The water has come from the front of the street, it was actually flooding from under the footpath. It’s come straight down the neighbours (place) and flooded into this utility area, and it has lifted a chair off the ground and thrown it around,” she said.

Residents now face a big clean up in the area.
