Melbourne home burglars net $1m in goods

Thieves have stolen more than a million dollars worth of property in a spate of home burglaries in suburban Melbourne.

There were 23 home break-ins in Lynbrook, and its surrounds, over the past three months.

Cash, safes, computers, jewellery and even cars have been stolen by thieves who forced entry to the home.

"We're estimating the value of these items are in the vicinity of $1 million," Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Terry Rowlands said on Monday.

"It's fair to say these crimes are linked with the same offenders entering premises overnight and helping themselves to what they can find."

A further 17 home burglaries also occurred in nearby Casey over the past month.

These typically happen during the day, and thieves entered via an unlocked garage or rear door.

"Thieves are walking into these premises without any hassle, stealing car keys and valuables and making off with these items and the family car," Sergeant Rowlands also said.
