Melbourne funeral plan for George Williams

Funeral plans are under way for drug trafficker George Williams, the father of notorious Melbourne gangland murderer Carl Williams.

The 69-year-old died overnight on Wednesday, reportedly of a heart attack.

A quiet, bespectacled man, George was convicted for drug trafficking and sentenced in November 2007 to four-and-a-half years jail.

George went to jail with Carl, who was in for the murder of Michael Marshall. Carl was also later sentenced to 35 years for the murders of Lewis and Jason Moran and Mark Mallia.

But fellow inmate Matthew Johnson killed Carl with the stem of an exercise bike in their shared maximum security unit in Barwon Prison.

George was paroled in 2009 and retired from the underworld in 2015.

Broadmeadows funeral directors Tobin Brothers, who organised Carl's funeral, has been engaged to lay George to rest.
