Murder accused Barbaro extradited to Vic

A man wanted over the death of a woman in South Melbourne has been extradited to Victoria after being arrested in Sydney.

Fugitive Ricardo Barbaro was arrested early on Thursday after a stand-off and brief altercation with police at a unit in Sydney's western suburbs.

His matter was mentioned briefly in Parramatta Local Court, where his Queensland-based lawyer Campbell MacCallum did not oppose the extradition.

He is wanted in Victoria over the death of South Melbourne woman Ellie Price.

Barbaro chose not to appear in court via video link before being released into the custody of four Victorian police officers to take him back to Melbourne.

He is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Following a week-long interstate manhunt, the 33-year-old was arrested at Amalfi Drive at Wentworth Point and charged with an interstate warrant for murder.

He was taken to Sydney's Concord Hospital for treatment on minor injuries believed to have been sustained during a collision with a mirror.

Footage released by NSW Police showed Barbaro being taken into custody wearing a black tracksuit.

Police believe Ms Price and Barbaro had been in an on-again, off-again relationship since October last year.

It's believed Ms Price, a 26-year-old mother, was assaulted and that her body was left in her home for up to five days before it was discovered on May 4.

Detectives last week launched a public appeal to find the fugitive and urged him to hand himself in.

Ms Price's Mercedes was found at Diggers Point in Melbourne's outer northwest last week, about 40 kilometres from her South Melbourne home.

Victoria Police had been looking for Barbaro, of Southport in Queensland, with help from other law enforcement agencies.

Detectives are not searching for anyone else in the murder investigation.
