Melbourne church damaged in blaze

A church has caught fire in inner Melbourne, causing an estimated $500,000 worth of damage.

Flames engulfed St Jude's Anglican Church in Lygon Street in Carlton about 4am, damaging the roof and the basement.

The blaze took almost 50 minutes to control, with the cause yet to be determined.
