Accused Vic teen's spree ends in chase

A Melbourne teenager accused of trying to rob jewellery stores allegedly led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle before officers deflated his tyres on the West Gate Bridge.

Joshua Keuth, 19, denies the allegations and on Monday pleaded not guilty to 10 charges, including armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

The teenager was ordered to stand trial following a committal hearing in Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

Keuth, who was 18 at the time of the alleged offences, is accused of breaking into the Parkmore shopping centre in Keysborough on November 14.

Once inside, the teen allegedly tried to steal from a jewellery store and a tobacco shop, according to charge sheets.

Keuth is also charged with trying to steal from another jewellery store in Lalor on the same day while armed with a crowbar.

Police say he was also armed with a crowbar, axe handle and metal pole when he allegedly stole cigarettes from a Preston store.

Keuth was arrested on the West Gate Bridge after police officers and police vehicles swarmed the stolen car.

It's alleged Keuth stole the car at Altona North earlier that day.

Acting Sergeant Daniel Chrystie says he and two officers had followed the car for almost two hours.

Police deflated three of its tyres before it came to a stop.

Acting Sgt Chrystie said he dragged Keuth out by his feet from the backseat of the car.

Senior Constable Elsie Madigan said Keuth told her: "I was really trying not to hurt anyone and that is why I stopped on the bridge".

Keuth has been charged with not stopping for police, recklessly engaging in conduct by evading police, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

Keuth will face a directions hearing at the County Court on Tuesday.
