Lucky escape for commuters after Melbourne bus catches fire

Passengers have been evacuated from a bus after it unexpectedly caught fire in Melbourne’s CBD this afternoon.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade crews were called to Lonsdale Street, near Russell Street, about 4.15pm after reports smoke was billowing from a bus.

Video shows flames and large amounts grey smoke pouring from the PTV bus as firefighters work to control the blaze.

The fire was controlled within three minutes.

The bus driver was assessed by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation, but did not require hospital treatment.

No one else was injured.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
