Melbourne battered by gale force winds

Winds of up to 90km/h have ripped through Melbourne, prompting more than 350 calls for help.

The storm hit about 7pm on Monday and battered the city for several hours, with a strong wind warning still in place on Tuesday for Port Phillip, Western Port, West Coast, Central Coast, and the central and east Gippsland Coast.

The State Emergency Service say the winds brought down trees across the city, with most of the 350 calls reports of trees falling onto roads or parked cars.
